How’s everybody today? I’m sure one of you car people can tell me about this van. I can tell you that it has a TX ANG fin flash on the door. I photographed it way back in 2012 out behind the Texas Military Forces Museum at Camp Mabry here in Austin. I’m digging the wheels.

Hey there. All is well here. Just waiting for the giant meteor to impact Oppo.
The van is some kind of Chevy Greenbrier I think. The ANG flash is a nice touch.

Somebody over on hyphen ID’d as a Corvair Greenbrier, so I’m guessing engine in the back? It was a long time ago, and I asked the docent about the van. He said that they were hoping to restore it and put it on display. Haven’t been there since, so I have no idea if that has happened or not. Super neat van, though.

Yes, rear engines air cooled flat 6 in the rear. Like a faster VW Type 2.

So I’m assuming rear engine?

Yuuuuuup
Extremely space efficient. design. You barely lose any space at all in the rear though liftover is a bit higher.

Super cool how they crammed that in there. Did that engine have the guts to move that thing?

Those Corvair engines aren’t as shabby as you may think. It’s certainly faster than a Type 2 and can at the very least keep up with traffic. Not exactly fast but about comparable to the front-mid engined 6 cylinder vans the rest of Detroit was making at the time and has much better handling characteristics.

Yep, the engine is in the back. All the crazy of a Corviar with the added weight of a van!
